Notice! The following orientations are
specific to online learning and are separate from the Sheridan
College Online Orientation.
Orientation to Online learning will provide you with useful
information, tutorials, and self-assessment tools that will help
you succeed in an online or hybrid course. NWCCD
offers three (3) options for you to choose from depending on
your experience and comfort level with online learning.

Option

Live Orientations
One hour orientation sessions
are held in real-time on campus and online using
Blackboard Collaborate web conferencing. The
on-campus sessions is an opportunity for those
living within reasonable driving distance to
Sheridan, Gillette, or Buffalo, to have an instructor
led introduction to online learning. The live
sessions in Collaborate also provide real-time
instructor-led orientations with the benefit of
participating wherever you have an Internet connection.
Students will be
introduced to the Blackboard Learning Management System
(LMS) and learn tips and tricks for being successful
as an online student.

Self-paced Online Learning Orientation
The Self-paced Online Learning
Orientation can be completed at anytime. This
course will
take around two hours. The online orientation should be completed
before the end of the first week of classes

Intro
to Online Learning ( 1 cr. hr.)
This one (1) credit hour class is designed
for students new to online learning or NWCCD's
learning management system (currently
Blackboard 9.1). Topics include: analyzing the online
learning experience; ensuring adequate knowledge of
and access to technology necessary for successful
online learning; and demonstrating effective use of
learning management system tools such as logging
into a course, navigating an online course,
communicating with instructors and other students,
locating and submitting assignments, completing
quizzes, and checking grades.
