Getting Started
The next online offering of this course will be Fall 2009.
Textbook Requirements
The following textbook can be purchased
online through the
Sheridan
College online bookstore
Basic Online Format
-
All assignments and discussions are due
before 12:00 am (midnight) mountain time on the Sunday before the
beginning of the next week.
-
Attend and participate in class
discussions. It is necessary to post three times to all discussions.
These three posts should be at least 24 hours apart. The student
should post one original reply to the topic of discussion and a
response to the original reply of another student. The third post
should in some way add to the discussion. For best results, the
students responded to should vary each week.
-
The first discussion is a scavenger
hunt/test of abilities. I look for the ability to post to a
discussion board by opening a new thread as well as continuing a
thread. I also look for the ability to send emails - with
attachments. In case the student wants me to look over a paper or
has questions. I use the hunt to allow students to explore the class
and find where the assignment instructions are posted, find the
syllabus, test dates, and other important information. So web
surfing abilities are a bonus.
-
Successfully complete 4 one - hour
exams, all quizzes and assignments.
-
Successfully complete the comprehensive
final.
-
READ the text on your own time.
-
Most students who excel in my class
usually spend an hour or two a day, four or five days a week. This
is mostly for discussions because they are worth 30% of the grade.
Feedback
Please expect up to 24 hours to respond to
e-mail and discussion board posts during the week and 48 hours over the
weekend. Depending on the assignment, some take longer to grade than
others. I will try to have assignments and exams grading within seven
(7)
days of the due date.
Frequency of Blackboard Access
It is expected that students access
Blackboard three or more times a week to participate in
discussions, submit assignments, and complete exams.
Computer Skills Required
All students who are new to using Blackboard or are taking their first
online class from NWCCD, are
expected to complete the Orientation to Online Learning prior to
beginning this class. Students need to meet the
minimum computer literacy expectations as well as the
minimum technology requirements. Go to the Distance Learning
website for more information (www.sheridan.edu/distance/).
